State ID

Upon review of my state taxes, Turbo Tax is asking for the state ID for Pen Excl Wks.  I do not know what Pen Excl Wks is nor what the state ID for it is.

This is the Pension Exclusion Worksheet, probably for your state return.

Did you enter one or more 1099-R forms? These are how pensions are reported.

My guess is that in the State Review, TurboTax has noticed that you did not enter the State ID (look at the bottom of the form where the withholding would be). Go back to the 1099-R interview on the Federal return and see if you can find this.

See if this works for you...

I did enter a 1099-R and have now found it under forms.  The form has a blank for State Code (AL) and for State ID.  On the 1099-R in box 15 which is State/Payer's state no., There is AL/, and that is all, no state no.

Are boxes 14 and 16 blank? Then just erase box 15, and I think your issue will go away.

State ID

For me, this was the 2 letter abbreviation for the state. In my case it was AL  for Alabama. I found it in box 15 of the 1099R

This is a great question because it basically won’t allow you to file electronically if not completed!!
