I have already completed my federal return with turbo tax. I still need to do my state but was wondering if I could use the free version to complete my state return?

These are the qualifications for TurboTax Free Edition.

TurboTax Free Edition prepares a simple tax return with form 1040 only and no additional schedules.  Simple situations only include:

• W-2 income,
• Limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-Int or 1099-Div,
• Claiming the standard deduction,
• Earned income tax credit (EIC),
• Child tax credits.

I understand those are the criteria, but that's not what I asked. I have already filed my federal tax, can I go through turbo tax and use just the free edition to file just my state taxes?

If you were not able to use the free edition for your Federal return, there will also be a problem filing the state return.  All base information is prepared on the Federal input screens.  If for some reason you had to upgrade, That reason would still exist/
