State Estimated Payment Vouchers SC1040ES

Due to multiple reasons, I slightly underestimated my SC state tax burden for last year.  The software generated SC1040ES forms.  I'd rather address the issue via increased withholding on income.  Am I required to use the forms by the state, or, like federal 1040es forms are they only suggested by the software?

They are there for your convenience. If you underpay one year, then it is advisable that you utilize them the following year to prevent it from happening again. If you have sufficiently paid in, there is no reason to use them.
