SC1040TT

I just did my taxes with TurboTax Deluxe with State Returns and the amount entered on line 6 of my South Carolina form SC1040 is different than the amount on the 2019 SCDOR 1040TT (Tax Table).

SC is a pretty straightforward tax. If you have a lump sum distribution, a business, a composite return or tax on excess withdrawals from catastrophe accounts, those are taxed at a different rate and the tax tables would not apply.

I have to think that maybe you had a little business or one of the other reasons where the tax table is not used.

SC1040TT

It says right on the form prepared by TurboTax that the amount of tax that I owe comes from the SC1040TT (Tax Table). The amount that the software entered on Line 6 does not match the amount from the SC1040TT that is on the SCDOR website so either TurboTax is wrong or the SCDOR website is wrong.

I received an E-Mail asking if the reply to my post solved my problem, it did not. Will someone at TuboTax explain why their version of the SC1040TT does not match the SC1040TT on the SCDOR website?

Is there anyone at TuboTax that can help with this? If not I will be sure to never purchase it again and to tell everyone I know that obtaining support is all but impossible.

Please let Turbo Tax help with your issue. My SC is taxing correctly so I am not able to help. Please let someone look at your return to see exactly what is happening.

I tried that and did not get an answer. It's just not worth wasting my time on it anymore. I will just use a competitor's software in the future and be sure to change to an alternative to quicken when the time comes too.

Since we in the Community cannot see your tax return, it is difficult for us to address your issue without more information.

Can you tell us what the amount is on line 5 of form SC1040? Can you tell us what the amount is on line 6 of the same form?

I do not feel comfortable telling you the exact amount on a public bulletin board, but I can tell you the amount on line 5 is between 32,400 and 32,500 and the amount on line 6 is 1,757 but according to the tax table on the SCDOR website - https://dor.sc.gov/forms-site/Forms/SC1040TT_2019.pdf - it should be 1,756. While I realize it is only a difference of $1, I would rather not pay more than I owe.

Thank you. I see in the published SC1040TT that it should be $1,756.

Let me see if I can get an explanation for this.

I have created a test (at about twice your income) and the same thing happened - the tax on my test was $1 more than SC1040TT. We are looking at it.

With the permission of the South Carolina tax authorities, TurboTax uses a formula to calculate the tax for all income amounts, rather than the tax tables.

This has the potential to cause rounding errors of $1. The state is aware of this and permits this.

My sons tax was off by $1 between SC tax tables & turbotax. Just got a letter today from SCDOR. Yea, I am positive tt is wrong.

SC1040TT

TurboTax is wrong.

Got a letter from SCDOR saying my taxes were wrong. I thought I was getting audited, so I called up an accountant to look at my taxes.

My accountant said TurboTax used the wrong number for SC Taxes. She said the correct number comes from the SC1040TT table, and that’s not what TurboTax used.

Doesn’t TurboTax offer some kind of guarantee? Can I get a refund?
