Hi,
Hope you are well. I have a semi-strange tax situation for which I'm attempting to find clarity.
I am a Virginia resident that is employed in Washington D.C. Compliments of the pandemic, my employer allows me to work remotely full time, prompting a move to North Carolina in April 2021.
My understanding of my previous tax situation is that, given Virginia and D.C. have reciprocity, I did not have to pay D.C. taxes and only paid Virginia taxes on my income.
Now that I'm in N.C., I'm a bit unsure how I should proceed. To my understanding, the only thing that has changed so far is that my employer is now withholding N.C. state taxes from my income instead of V.A.
While I don't anticipate being in North Carolina long-term (I should be here for another 6-8 months), I'd like to ensure I avoid any (potentially nasty) surprises when I file my 2021 taxes next year.
Is there anything I should file or do, or is it sufficient just to withhold (and pay) N.C. state taxes?
Thanks!

A. Yes
DC is reciprocal with ALL states.
For 2021, you will file part year resident returns for both VA & NC.
