My state taxes were rejected due to "Total Alabama Wages, Form 40 Pg. 1, line 5, must equal the total amount of all State Wages (including Wages Earned Out of State) as reported in Box 16 of the NEW ELF 2010 (4) STATE WAGE AND LOCALITY Federal 1040 W-2 (State Wages 1, State Wages 2, State Wages 3 and State Wages 4). But there isn't another state to report. But I see the numbers as matching. Why is this happening? How do I fix it because Turbotax says they will walk me through and fix it, and they haven't. Nothing in our federal taxes speaks to working in Illinois. Signed, losing her mind in Alabama....

Go back to My Info and verify that there is not a state listed for lived in other states or that you earned money in any other states. Edit your personal information to check that lived in another state is not checked.
If Other State Income shows a state, Edit and delete the state.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for deleting a state tax return to see if the Illinois is listed - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/delete-state-return-turbotax...
Removing Illinois was easy after your help! Thank you. I don't know how or why it was there in the first place. My continuing problem still remains though: (would taking out "Illinois" fix this problem???)
But all the numbers are correct and match. Why is this happening?
@prairiestorm Not sure why that is happening. You could go back to the W-2 section and delete the W-2. Then re-enter the W-2 manually. Complete that section and then go back to the State return and start the state from the beginning.
