NYS filing problem

NYS says it only allows electronic filing if software is used to prepare the return. I have to file my federal by regular mail since my husband died in January 2020. Is there a way to get TurboTax to submit only NY state taxes online? Should I mail in the NY state taxes forms with a note of explanation?

You're required to e- file your NY return if you meet the following conditions:

you use software to prepare your own personal income tax return;
your software supports the electronic filing of your return; and
you have broadband Internet access."

Since the software does not allow you to e-file, you can file your state return by mail. Instructions for form IT-201.
