I prepaid NYS taxes last year. I was given the option of splitting up my payment to allocate to state, city, and MCTMT (a transit tax slapped on self-employed folks who worked in NYC), so I split up the payments.
As I am doing Turbo Tax now, I realize that the state only keeps record of the total amount paid, and does not have a record of how I allocated my payment. Turbo Tax, however, does make a distinction of the local and MCTMT prepaid tax.
I did not write down how I split the amounts. Is there a way to recover the info from the NYS finance website? If I just enter the amount I paid to the state and leave the local and MCTMT fields blank, will that get me in trouble or result in them charging me for non-prepayment of MCTMT and local tax?
Thank you.

You can check with the NY Department of Finance and Taxes to create an online account to determine how they captured the payments. Use this link to create an online account.
However, If TurboTax captured your payments accurately, they should translate to the NY return accurately. You may need to pay TurboTax then view the state return to ensure that it is recorded to reflect the differently categories of state taxes.
