Yep..to maybe..depending on which tax software you are allowed to use.
....you must file a VA non-resident tax return for just the VA income, and a NC Resident tax return for ALL your income from everywhere including interest and dividends, and capital gains...etc, (You get a credit in NC for just the taxes you paid to VA so you are not double-taxed).
1) IF you "can" use the "Free" Online software, there would be no charge for the state software for either state.
2) But the "Free" Online software is for only the very...very...VERY simplest of tax returns, and if you have to upgrade to any higher versions, there will be a charge for each state too as well as the Federal forms.
3) Desktop Deluxe or higher contains one free state software download....and you'd have to buy the seconds state (But e-filing each state is an extra $25 on to of that...though they can be mail-filed for your cost of paper and postage)

IF you buy Desktop Deluxe from anyone but TTX, be careful..the cheapest ones do not contain one free state software download...only buy from well-known US stores or you may get stuck with non-working software or malware.
