My employer incorrectly with held Illinois state income tax. I lived and worked in Texas for the whole year. How do I file in IL to recover all of the state tax?

You will need to file a Non-resident State of IL tax return with $0 income to get the money back.

Would be best to do by paper so you can attach an explanation of what happened and why there is $0 income when W-2 says otherwise.

A letter from the employer would go a long way.

May want to go to IL website and download the non-resident return and do it by hand as income is $0 and you know the state tax withheld.  You can do it however, in TurboTax.
