You will need to create a new account for each business tax return filed, or if you are using TurboTax online.

In the CD/Download version of TurboTax, you can prepare as many federal returns as you want. Up to five can be e-filed. Additional returns must be printed and mailed.

You can also use TurboTax Online or the mobile app to prepare multiple returns, but each return requires its own unique login and must be paid for separately (if the return doesn't qualify for Free Edition).

Most customers who need to file separate returns for family members find that the CD/Download version is more economical.

Tip: Our license agreement doesn't allow the use of TurboTax for commercial or professional tax preparation. If you prepare tax returns for a living, take a look at our ProSeries or Lacerte software.

When you are filing returns the IRS checks the social security numbers for all taxpayers, spouses and dependents. When you get a notification that you cannot file due to a social security number already being used. generally that means that a dependent has already been claimed on a return for the tax year you are trying to fie, or a tax return has already been filed for that tax year.
