Turbo Tax is forcing me to file in the state of VA where I have been a resident in years past.  This year I was a resident in PA and TX only.  I completed my federal return and a PA return but each time I go to "review" it comes up with errors related to incomplete information on a VA return.  I do not need to file a VA return at all but Turbo Tax keeps forcing open a VA return.

If you were not a resident of Virginia or did not work in Virginia during 2019, you can delete the state by following these instructions:

  1. Sign in and open your return if you don't already have it open.
  2. From the left menu, select State (if you don't see this menu, select the menu icon in the upper-left) and then select Continue on the Let's get your state taxes done right screen.
  3. On the Status of your state returns screen select Delete to the right of your state, then answer Yes.

following up...what if I need CA for my return but not for my wife's?  How do I get TT to stop reporting errors on her CA return?

Please clarify what you mean by errors on her CA return?  Are you filing the joint for CA?
