Multiple States W2

I live in Missouri and worked in Missouri for entire year 2021, however I received arrear payment in 2021 for the work I did in California back in 2016, in the arrear payment W2 I see CA is captured as state and rest of my W2s are for state MO.  As I did not work in CA for any duration in 2021, shall I file the W2 with CA state for the arrear payment under MO state tax filing or should I file separate CA state tax filing even though I did not work in CA or live in CA for any duration in 2021.  Please clarify.

You may have to file a California nonresident return to report the California wages from 2016.  See Filing requirements for the threshold amounts. You will also have to report the income on your Missouri return, but if you have to pay California tax you will get a credit so you will not be double taxed.

In TurboTax, you should prepare your nonresident state tax return first.
