Multiple state filing

I was a resident of North Carolina for 16 years until 01/27/2021.  I established residency in Massachusetts on 1/27/2021.  Why is turbo tax telling me that I have a 2020 tax obligation in MA?

In the My Info or Personal Info section, did you list Massachusetts as your state of residence? You should have listed North Carolina, i.e., your state of residence as of December 31, 2020.

Please enter your current mailing address when TurboTax asks for Mailing Address & Phone Number.

P.S., Also, did you have an entry in a W-2 or a 1099 with a MA in the state box? This will also trigger a request for a MA return.
