multi state - minnesota over taxation

Between January 1, 2024, and May 24, 2024, I lived and worked in Minnesota. Since May 25, 2024, I have been residing in North Carolina. During my residency in Minnesota, I earned $50,000. Since moving to North Carolina, I have earned $100,000. Additionally, I own a townhome, which I rented out starting May 25, 2024, generating a rental income of $15,000.

In my TurboTax personal profile, I have already added Minnesota as an additional state where I earned income.

  • In TurboTax, my total federal income is reported as $215,000, and my federal taxes are projected correctly.
  • However, when I proceed to file my Minnesota state tax return, TurboTax asks for the portion of my total income that should be allocated to Minnesota. I entered $65,000 as my Minnesota income.
  • At the end of the Minnesota state tax workflow, TurboTax does not apply the allocated Minnesota income I entered. Instead, it incorrectly uses my total federal income of $215,000.
  • After subtracting the Minnesota standard deduction of $29,150, it calculates my Minnesota taxable income as $185,850.

TurboTax should be using only the Minnesota-allocated portion of my total federal income but is incorrectly applying the full federal income amount.

I am seeking urgent assistance to resolve this issue. Thank you.
