Moved to CA, but earned no income in CA for 2024

Hi! I'm trying to determine if I am. required to file both an NC and CA state tax return, or just NC.

My wife and I moved from NC to CA on 11/1/2024. We earned incomes from 1/1/2024 - 10/31/2024 both from NC companies. Neither of us earned any income from CA companies, NC companies, or any other source between 11/1/2024 - 12/31/2024. We are fully prepared to file a NC state tax return due to earning all of our income in that state. However, our 12/31 residency is CA, but we earned $0, within CA or otherwise, from the beginning date (11/1/2024) of CA residency. To my understanding, from reading the CA FTB guidance, I should not have to file a CA state return nor owe any taxes to CA this year.

Thanks so much in advance for any insight you have!

Correct, you needn't file a California return.

If you had no income while living in California and you had no income from California sources in 2024, there is no need to file a 2024 Part-Year California State return.
