Moved from Maryland to Delaware in April

I had income in Maryland when I lived there. How do I deal with Maryland and Delaware taxes now that I live and earn income in Delaware?

Thanks!

You will file a Part-Year Tax return for Maryland and Delaware.  A part-year resident pays tax on all income you received when you were a resident and any state source income you received as a nonresident (if any).  For example, you would report your wages to each state,

If you had moved to Delaware but kept the same job in Maryland, you would have reported the Maryland resident income for the income you earned while you lived then AND the income you earned in Maryland while living in Delaware as MD nonresident income.  (Thankfully you do not have to do this).

Moved from Maryland to Delaware in April

Hi,

What if the second scenario is true for me? I lived and worked in MD then moved to DE, and I still work in MD?

You would need to file both a MD and a DE return as a part year resident of both states.  Be sure that you have entered in the Personal Information area of TurboTax that you resided in more than one state.  Since you only had income in Maryland, you would prepare that state's return first in TurboTax. and then prepare Delaware.

Assuming that you still only work in MD and only live in DE for 2026, you will prepare a MD non-resident return first then a DE full year resident return after that when you file taxes for 2026 early in 2027.
