My son received a letter to verify his identity with the state of michigan. We attempted to do this online because paper will take way too long. the information I input came back as not valid according the website. He filed MI-CR1040 and MI1040. I have tried inputting the refund amount from both lines from each form and it still comes back as not valid. Any input?

If you are unable to prove your identity online, then you will have to paper mail the documents requested. The more attempts to prove, the more unlikely you are to get the approval online. The questions would be about 1040 unless it specifically states from the MI 1040-CR or if it is a personal question about your son. If they are asking for the amount of refund, then it would be from 1040, not the 1040-CR, unless the question is about the amount of your homestead credit. MI-1040-CR is the property tax (homestead) credit.
I am not sure how many times you have tried, you may have locked yourself out. What I would do is close out of all browser windows and actually restart your computer if possible and then go back in and try again. If it still does not work, then you will have to mail the papers.
Thank you for your reply. I just called the dept of treasury and there is a recording about letters that went out dated 02/24/22. The Quiz ID is incorrect and they are mailing out new letters dated 03/07/22.
