Michigan Resident Paying Toledo Tax

I am a Michigan resident and work in the city of Toledo Ohio. This is my first year working in Toledo so I am not familiar with how this process works. Toledo taxes are taken from my check weekly. Am I entitled to get those funds back? I read a TurboTax forum yesterday that had multiple different answers. It mentioned filling out a form from the city of Toledo and submitting it to Michigan. Now today the very last comment in the forum says there was actually a spot in the misc. credits section on TurboTax to add this. I filed my taxes yesterday. Is there a way to go back and fix them if I am entitled to get a refund on the city tax?

I filed a Federal and Michigan return not Ohio.

Thank you.

Michigan Resident Paying Toledo Tax

Michigan and Ohio have a reciprocal agreementalso called reciprocity, which is an agreement between two states that allows residents of one state to request exemption from tax withholding in the other (reciprocal) state.

If your employer has withheld taxes for the work state, you will have to file for a refund from your work state. You'll still file your resident return that also includes that income and pay tax on it. You will file a Ohio return to get the money withheld.

You can  file an exemption form to not have withholding from that state, be sure to ask your employer to withhold taxes from your resident state.
