been 4 years using turbotax. in four years, TURBOTAX has not provided an input block to check for the tax authority to discuss preparation with someone other then the taxpayer.Their insistence in not providing this input is resulting in not being able to efile. After numerous discussions with "experts", i don't know where to turn other than another platform next year. Can you offer any solution?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
There is no box on the MD form 502 to allow someone other than the taxpayer or a paid preparer to discuss your return. TurboTax is generally a self-prepared tax return program. If a TurboTax expert completes your return and you wish to give them the permission as a paid preparer, they will mark the forms appropriately for you.
If you prepare your return and need to have someone else discuss your return with a tax authority you can give your permission/complete the necessary forms (usually a Power of Attorney) at that time.
Typically, even if a tax form has the option and that option is selected, a tax authority still requires specific permission forms (usually a Power of Attorney) to begin the encounter.
In TurboTax desktop versions using the "Forms Mode" you can designate a third party to discuss your Federal return on the "Information Worksheet." Typically, the IRS will still request a form 2848 (Power of Attorney) to begin an encounter.
You should e-file your returns if you wish.
