Massachusetts non-resident - Sch Y

I am filing a nonresident tax return to get back taxes that were incorrectly allocated to MA when we live in ME. However its mapping my non-military wage information to Sch Y, Line 4 (Amounts excludable under MGL Chapter 41, Section 111F or U.S. tax treaty included in Form 1, line 3 or Form 1-NR/PY, line 5.) and is requiring me to ccheck either the fire or treaty box.  The income isn't subject to MSRRA since we didn't live in MA and has nothing to do with MGL chapter 41. It's just non-resident income. This looks like a mapping error in the turbotax logic. anyone know how to get around this or get technical help?  Schedule Y doesn't apply

Correct, sch Y would not apply. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your return
  2. Go to MA state return
  3. continue to We've finished your return
  4. Select Adjustments
  5. continue through
  6. Select no to benefits from firefighter/ emergency medical
  7. continue going through to How Mass handles Income for Part-year
  8. continue
  9. enter the Non- Mass portion of income- zero or blank should be entered
  10. continue
  11. income earned while not a resident- all of it.
  12. Continue on until you reach Income Exclusions for Mass.
  13. Mark "Neither of the Above" since that is the firefighter/ foreign treaty question.
  14. continue through your return

For the non-military wages, review your federal section to see if anything related to this income was answered that could pull to the MA sch Y.

If you are still stumped, you can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:

If you are online, go to tax tools>tools > share file with agent > 6 digit number pops up.

If on desktop, go to online >send tax file to agent > number pops.
