Live in MD, but worked in MD and WY (Separate Employees)

I physically lived and worked in Maryland Jan - Aug 2022.  In Aug, I left my job to work for a different employer at Yellowstone National Park (in Wyoming) for 6 weeks...physically working and living in temporary housing in WY.  After the Yellowstone job, I came back home to MD.

I called and emailed the Maryland Comptroller Office and they said that I do not have to pay state taxes for the work performed in WY...verified by both people.

Currently the TurboTax return for MD is including that income earned in WY...as MD income (pulled from the federal tax return).  How do I remove the WY income from my MD taxes?  (WY does not have an income tax).

Thanks.

It sounds as if Maryland is not allocating your income properly, to only tax of income during your time in Maryland.

First, please check My Info in the Federal return and be sure your address is listed as your Maryland address, and is selected in the dropdown box for resident state, and the box is checked for Made money in another state.

Then go to the States section and click on the delete trashcan icon for Maryland

Next, add Maryland back and be sure it is creating a Resident return

It will show your federal income and ask you to allocate what is sourced in Maryland

You will not need to file a return in Wyoming, since it is one of the states with no individual income tax

I think the MD aide was wrong.

To do what you want to do file a part year MD resident return.

Duh, that makes sense...as a part-time Maryland resident.

I printed my email from the Maryland Comptroller...just in case they call me in...

Thanks for your help!
