Iowa state refund 2021

IN 2021 Turbotax Home and Business, Turbotax figured my Iowa refund as $1624 but Iowa disagreed and refunded only $812.  I had significant  medical expenses in 2021 but I don't understand if this made a difference.

Why is Iowa's refund half of what Turbotax figured?  And, what do I do about it?

You must contact the Iowa Department of Revenue to find out the specifics of why your refund was reduced.  They may have sent you a letter of the changes, but if they did not, see Iowa Department of Revenue.

Iowa state refund 2021

The Iowa Department of Revenue did send a letter and I spoke with someone there also.

Iowa disputed my figures for Iowa tax withheld and asked for proof.  I sent proof but they maintained their disagreement and sent me only half of what I had paid in.

I'm trying to understand how the Turbotax guarantee for 100% accuracy is actually accurate.

Is there anything I can do?  Iowa claims that I had to settle this within 60 days and I complied with that.

Thanks for any help.

Do you have a copy of the Iowa return showing the state tax withheld . The accuracy of Turbotax is guaranteed as long as the figures you inputted in there are the correct figures.  What exactly are they disputing? Is it the actual tax withholding figures that are incorrect or is it some calculation that they are computing differently than what is showing up on the return. It is advisable that when you speak to them, you ask for a printout of their calculation and compare it to the calculation that appears on the tax return and then we can go from here. Or maybe the tax witholding numbers that appear on your W2 or 1099 may simply be differently than the numbers they have on file. In that case, you should check that out with your employer.

Best of luck!
