If you moved partway through the year, you will file a part-year California resident return for the part of your income earned in California.  Texas does not have a personal income tax so the part of your income earned while you lived in Texas is not subject to state tax, but it still goes on your Federal return of course.

Huh? Texas doesn't tax personal income.

They will ask specific dates on when you last resides in California and when you took residence in Texas. Then ask how much were your wages from each state.. indicating you can look at your last paystub from California and then your wages from Texas. You will also receive 2 W2 one for California and one for Texas.
I moved from New York to Georgia on a job transfer and had lots of questions to answer.
