I moved to Georgia for work but intend to return to Louisiana. Do I file as non-resident or part-year?

I'm a life-long resident of Louisiana and had to move in August of last year to Georgia for work. My mailing address, DL, bank, voter registration, etc are all in LA. I live in an apartment in GA, but I don't know how long I'll be in GA for work. LA is still my home... I am also claiming my moving expenses since they weren't covered by my employer.

You would file a resident LA tax return and a non-resident GA tax return.

Do not select the "You lived in another state in 2016." That question only applies if you changed your state of residence.

Select "I earned money in another state (GA)". That will prompt the program to require a GA tax return.

GA will tax the income you earned in GA.

LA will also tax the GA income, but will give you credit (against LA taxes) for what you had to pay to GA .

Thanks! GA state site information steered me to think I just filed as non-resident, but Turbo Tax's guide "I made money in GA, but I never lived there." threw me off to want to select the other option that guided me to file as a part-year resident. Just wanted to make sure.

I see this issue frequently. If you don't change your state of residence, you don't "live in another state."
