I'm having an issue with item B on the Massachusetts taxable paid family medical leave smart worksheet. Help?

It's asking for the amount that is PFML taxable distributions. Unsure how to answer that.

If you received a 1099-G for these payments, you will enter that information into your Federal return using these steps.

This should pull into your state return.  However, if you do not see it under the Massachusetts paid family leave, the amount can be entered/edited in the state interview section of the program.

If you are in the desktop version of the program, log back into TurboTax and select the State Taxes tab.

  1. Under Massachusetts, proceed through the screens and answer the questions as prompted until you see the screen titled "Massachusetts PFML Taxable Distributions."
  2. On this screen, you will need to mark yes if you received a Form 1099-G from the State of Massachusetts.
  3. This will bring up the box asking for the total amount of Massachusetts PFML Benefits received by you.  You will need to enter the amount of only the paid family medical leave compensation here.  This amount will then pull into your worksheet for Massachusetts.

Massachusetts follows the same treatment as the IRS and reports these benefits as taxable income.
