I live in MA and worked in RI, 70 mi away. Stayed in a hotel in RI during the week that was not reimbursed. Can I deduct mileage from MA to RI and living expenses in RI?

No. The IRS will not let you take these expenses as business travel. You live in MA by your choice, not for the benefit of your employer. Your miles would be considered part of your commute.
