How do I fix error when box 15 is blank and employer state ID says "total state" (there is an amount listed on 17) I have 2 diff W-2's: MA state and TOTAL STATE.

I have two W-2's from diff companies where I moved during pandemic so 1 has MA state info listed while the other only has Total State indicated but I think should be for CA state where I currently reside.

Yes. If you moved, your employer should have withheld state tax for California and Massachusetts.

TOTAL STATE is the total for all W-2s, so it includes California + Massachusetts.

Check each copy for your W-2s for a copy with CA as the state code in Box 15.

Make two state rows in TurboTax for Boxes 15-17. Then tap +Add another state to add a new row for your second state.

If you have anything in Boxes 18-20, tap +Add another locality to add another row for local tax with the second state.

for the copies of my W-2's there is not CA info listed anywhere for the state ID info or state locality, box 15 is empty and turbotax says I have to type in the state ID no, but its not even listed.  What do I do then?
