I am a Resident, my wife is a part-year resident. Need help with software.

Hello,

Turbotax software will not allow me to have two VA returns (my resident, her part-year resident) and one MD return part-year resident.  Trying to file as married filing separately.

The wife and I got married April 2016.  She was a MD resident from 01/01/16-04/01/16 and a VA resident the rest of the year.  I am a VA resident.  When attempting to use the turbotax software, I cannot specify my wife is the only part year resident of the two states and I am only the resident of the one.  I have downloaded both VA and MD state returns but it will not distinguish between us and assumes we are both residents and part year residents.  This skews the refund into tax due. I'm trying to figure out how to fix this.

Here is the information that you need to file your state returns separately (including creating a mock federal return that is also married filing separately).
