I am not the only one in this forum who has bought TurboTax because of the free state filing only to have a fee of $25.00 or some other fee come up. This is Bull S#@t!!! You need to make the state tax filing easy. Nowhere did I see anything about what was needed to file for free, just at the end, pay $25.00. There should not be work-arounds to get to the free filing. it should be clear and easy. In fact, the fee shouldn't come up until one tries to file a second return. this is crazy. I am sure my money is gone and will never come back. Congratulations Intuit! you get a f@#$%&g truckload of cash from unsuspecting customers who are willing to pay your $25 than to have to sit at the computer another five or 50 minutes trying to figure out how to get the free filing.
I hate this deception!! I don't know how to get around it nor do I feel like I should have to search out workaround solutions to get it.
I like the software, just not the stupid filing.
Mad as Hell,

Mine did the same thing, trying to charge $25. State is supposed to be free on the one I purchased. It says how to delete a state but it really doesn't. I'm not impressed. Every year it seems there's more hiccups. Sometimes I go to the next sections and its a blank screen. I have to go out and back in about 5 times before the page finally appears. You'd think with all the updates it does it would get it right.
Frustrated!!!
E-filing fee in desktop software
Did you purchase desktop software with state software included? They sell Deluxe both with and without state software--so you have to be careful which one you choose. And even if it does have the state software download included, that is for preparing the state. There is an extra fee to e-file the state. You can avoid the state e-file fee if you print and mail the state instead of e-filing it.
Box says Federal Returns & Federal E-File plus State Returns. It does not say state efile is included. It also says on the back of my CD case in the comparison chart....
1 state product via download (print free or efile for $19.99 each) prices subject to change without notice.
And click on 1 state download on Deluxe or above on the Desktop CD/Download page. Then in the pop up box scroll down to the very bottom.
