Question

Free single state charge,

I bought the Turbo Tax for 2019. Great program. I did not realize that there would be a $39.00 charge for filing the free state by e-filing. I found this out when when I was going to complain using this format and found others with the same question. Where is my one state free filing?. This practice is very misleading. I would strongly recommend that when selecting the free state that a statement is made that it is free only if you plan to manually mail the return and if you select e-filing you will be billed $39.00 extra.

Problem solved.

Thank you for such a great product.

$39?  No.  If you purchased desktop software that included a state program the extra fee to e-file a state return is $19.99.  You can avoid that fee by printing and mailing in the state return.  Not sure what you did or chose that resulted in paying $39, but it was not for e-filing.

I was absolutely stunned that I was charged for the state filing because it asked when I started if I wanted to use my free state return now. I answered yes and got charged $19.95. Totally deceiving and I think I should be reimbursed. Its free on the franchise tax board website, but I used turbo tax because I thought it was free too.
