Federal Service from Date? State return

1. Go back to the federal section.
2. Locate your 1099-R related to the service date.
3. Click Edit Continue through answering questions about the pension, including your service date.
4. This will carry to the state and allow you to finish up.

I think this is for your KS Exempt retirement benefits to need a service date.

Retirement benefits included in federal AGI that are exempt from Kansas tax.

1) Federal retirement benefits. 

.2) Kansas pension plans.

3) Railroad Retirement benefit

This did not work and I am not in the military so why do I need a federal service date?
