On behalf of all of us here at TurboTax, including many veterans, we thank you for serving in the military.
If your W-2 shows no state employer ID number, that should not be a problem. If you cannot leave it blank, and the software insists that you input something, just use your military federal EIN (Employer Identification Number) over again for the state field. If that doesn't work, then just enter something like all 5's (55-5555555).
Your e-file return will still go through just fine, as long as there are no other errors on your return. Your state department of revenue can always and easily identify your employer from their 9-digit federal EIN, so the state ID number is a little redundant anyway . . . but is still a way that your state tracks employers in their internal state computer system.
The state employer ID number is really only a bureaucratic convenience for your state's department of revenue; it's simply not an essential element to the correct filing and processing of a valid personal income tax return (either state or federal). Try to input it correctly if you can; but if you cannot, then it's not a problem. One or more of the suggestions above should successfully resolve the issue.
In any event, Florida only requires the filing of a state income tax return if you run a small business or own a rental property; the state does not tax personal wage (W-2) income.
Thanks for asking this important question, and good luck to you!
