Do I need to file state?

Do I need to file state? I am doing my student daughter's taxes. She was in Maryland for college and did tutoring. She earned very little doing so and paid just $14 in state taxes. I'm in California so I'd have to purchase a Maryland state and file with Maryland at a much greater expense than the $14. Do I need to bother with Maryland? Could we just file federal?

You can download a Maryland non-resident tax return here, at no charge:  https://forms.marylandtaxes.gov/18_forms/505.pdf

You can prepare it by hand and mail it in.

MD requires that non-residents file an MD return if they were required to file a federal return and had any income from MD sources.
