Do I have to file taxes if i am unemployed and live in two different states? I go back and forth constantly between Montana and California.

Also, I DO NOT GET UNEMPLOYMENT benefit from either state.

If you have received no income during the year in either state, then you would not need to file a Federal return or any state returns.
