I think I made a mistake when I put my 20 year old son (who has Adult Medicaid, NC) on my taxes as dependent.  It was my first time filling out taxes since my husband & I have separated.  Is there a way to amend my tax report?   I just filed yesterday

Does he qualify to be your dependent?

You can claim him as a dependent on your taxes as long as all of the following requirements are met :

    • You provided more than half of their financial support. More info
    • They made less than $4,300 in gross income during 2020
    • They live with you the entire year
    • They are a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.
    • They aren't (or won't be) claimed as a dependent by someone else.
    • They aren’t filing a joint return with their spouse.
    • You are not being claimed as a dependent on someone else's return.

If he is a full-time student, the income test is not applicable.
