Question

Delete irrelevant state

I have state tax software for 3 different states because I live in one state, and I'm doing taxes for my mom that needs to file in two states, not including the state in which I live.

When doing my mom's taxes, Turbo Tax is creating forms for the state in which I live, which is irrelevant for her taxes - how do I delete that state from her files?

Thanks

I have the same question regarding NH.  I have no income in NH, but because I live there, TT is trying to force me to download the state return (for an additional $45, of course) and I cannot get out of the loop.

Oh yes. My desktop has almost all the states. When you go to file, select paper mail. That tells the program to ignore the return. TurboTax does not communicate with that state at all.

If you already have the state installed on your computer, from your return:

  1. Look under the tabs to see all of the states you have installed
  2. Select your state there by clicking on it. You may have to click it a few times and the screen will change and say continue for the state.
  3. That enters it without a cost and it will stop bothering you.
