Hi.
I am a canadian resident working remotly from NJ. I have a question regarding filing my state taxes. My workplace and income comes out of my company in NJ. I usually put my sons address because our work system doesnt allow any non-US address. So my W2 shows my sons address in USA. My son however moved from NJ to MA during 2022. This has led to my W2 having two state boxes, one for NJ and one for MA.
My total wages on box one is 37000$. My question is as follows:
- state NJ box 16 = 37500$ box 17 = 1500$
- state MA box 16 = 16000$ box 17 = 184$
Obviously there seems to be some double taxing here? Since the sum of boxes 16 from my state is greater than box 1. How do I handle this? I am obviously a non-resident for all these states as I live in canada and have to file as a resident there.
Thanks in advance.
