California Residency

I moved to CA for temporary work in Jan 2016 and moved back to TX in July 2016. I have never lived permanently in CA or temporarily before 2016. I believe I have always been a CA nonresident, including 2016.
On the residency questions:
Did you become a CA resident during 2016: No (I wasn't a resident, only there temporarily)
Did you become a CA nonresident during 2016: No ( I have always been a nonresident, I didn't BECOME one) Correct?
Were you a CA nonresident during all of 2016: Yes, I was never a resident.

However, every time I click through the options and then go back in, turbo tax has changed the middle question (become a CA nonres) to yes. And then at the end of filing state taxes, it shows I was a part time resident on a CA form and asks for the date I lived in CA before 12/31/2015. I never lived in CA before 12/31/2015, nor do I think I ever was a resident in 2016 or other.
Why is this happening?

California Residency

You do seem to be a Calif nonresident for all of 2016. You should be filing a nonresident Form 540NR, and you are answering those questions correctly.

You should review your residency entries in Personal Info. They should indicate that you lived in Texas all year (you did not "move" to CA). When it asks, Did you make money in any other states?, click Yes and select California. That will fix your issue of TT/Calif thinking that you became a CA nonresident during 2016.
