I was filing my daughter's taxes using TurboTax and after entering all the information from her W2s, Turbo Tax calculated $15 state tax due.
I decided to see how I can file for free online using CalFile. I entered all the information on CalFile and CalFile is showing a refund of $11.
Why is this different? I was expecting the two to be the same.
Should I check my other returns as well? I have checked and double-checked all the numbers and still can't figure out why.
Any ideas?

We cannot see your return in this forum. Review the PDF of the state returns and compare line-by-line to see where the difference occurs. It may be in the state tax liability calculation or possibly uncover a difference in amounts entered.
I have a similar problem. My CalFile refund is much larger than my TurboTax refund. Looking at the CalFile numbers, it looks like the reason for the discrepancy is with the California AGI. The AGI in CalFile is much smaller than the the AGI in TurboTax. The same input numbers were used in both programs. Unfortunately there is no way for me to see where CalFile got its result, but I believe the TurboTax number is correct.
Does anyone know if there is a way to find out how CalFile calculates California AGI?
