amend a return or not

I live in Nebraska and filed for an extension on April 15th at which time I sent in an additional $2800 as that is what turbo tax estimated my tax to be. Now I want to complete the state tax return along with my federal return. Turbo task is asking me if I need to file an amended return since my new tax in now a refund instead of additional taxes.

No. You do not amend if you haven't filed the original return yet. Getting a refund or tax due doesn't affect if you need to amend. Did you click on the Amend button to get back into your return? You should click on Add a State to let you back into your retun to continue.
