Try not entering anything.  Is this entry prompted by a review error?

If TurboTax is filing in the 0, is must be entered that way on the W-2 Form. Try this to correct it:

  1.  Login to your TurboTax Account and continue your return.
  2. Select Federal on the left
  3.  Under Income & Expenses, the top section will be Job (W-2), click Add/ Edit on the right.
  4.  You will get to a screen that says Here's Your W-2 info, select Edit or the pencil icon to the right  of your W-2 form.
  5. Check box 17, if you have a $0 on a line labeled CA in box 15, clear the box and click Continue to save the change.
  6. Review the return again.

I have a similar problem except I am retired and have no W2 forms to enter.  I have selected we have no W2s in the wages section of the Federal forms but TT still tells me that Line 12 on 540NR is incorrect.

@donnaleegibson   Line 12 on CA 540 NR represents the total California wages from your federal Form(s) W-2.   Because you do not have a W-2, go back to the federal section and check your W-2 entries.  If you entered 0 in box 16, remove it and see if that clears the error.  If TurboTax automatically entered a 0 in box 16, then leave the 0 entry.

Same issue. Dad retired. Moved to another State from CA. There is no W-2 data, but will not transmit until error corrected. I selected the pull-down "I don't have a W-2" and yet this error will not go away to transmit

Check to see that there are no W2's in the file from prior years.  TurboTax carries data over from year to year to make it convenient.  Even though you didn't enter any data it doesn't mean that the program isn't trying to pull data from a blank W2 from last year.

Go to the Wages and Income section to the W2s.  See if there are any there from prior years.  If so, click the little trash can next to the entries to remove them.
