Because we in the Community cannot see your tax return nor the screen you are on, we will need some more information to be sure of answering you correctly.

However, please note that in terms of codes on the 1099-R, please enter the codes on the 1099-R that you received.

As for the state, note that on the scree(s) after the 1099-R, if there is to be special treatment of your 1099-R on the state level, TurboTax will usually ask for your state and may give you a special screen for that state to ask what kind of pension this is.

A few states may wait until the state interview to ask about your pensions. Look for these screens in the state interview.

If this does not answer your question, please come back and tell us the type of pension and the state.

My retired plan is like a 401 K . It’s called Thrift Savings Plan. I am eligible to withdraw from it. Because I have more than 30 years at the Post Office.

You enter the Form 1099-R as received on your tax return.

  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  • On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

Or enter 1099-r in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1099-R
