Question

Utah state return assumes wrong residency start date — how to fix?

How can I edit the dates of residency on my Utah state tax form? I have already added my residency dates in my federal return/personal information; however, my Utah state form assumes I was a part-year resident as of 1/1/2025, which is not correct. The other state forms (MI + CA) allow me to declare when I moved in and out, but the Utah form does not, and I cannot manually edit it from the form view. This appears to be a software limitation. I need to ensure that the correct residency dates are reflected on all state forms.

I do not know the order of the states that you were a part-year resident.  I do not know the dates of residency in the three states.  I do not know how income was earned in the states.

Under Your Info or My Info, I declared myself a resident of Utah but did not report that I lived in other states.

At the screen Did you make money in any other states, I reported that I made money in Michigan and California.

I presumed that there was one W-2 and the state income and withholding was reported on lines 15-17 of the W-2 for the three states.

In each state, I declared myself a part-year resident.  In each state, including Utah, I was allowed to report Dates of Residency.
