Upgrading from Deluxe to Business

My son purchased TurboTax 2019 Deluxe (while doing his taxes upgraded to Premier) all on my PC, but I need to use the "Home & Business" version as I include my real estate business. Can I upgrade it online, or do I need to go purchase the Home & Business DVD? Thanks. Ray

Did he use the Online web version or the Desktop Deluxe CD/download?

If you have the 2019 TurboTax desktop software installed, then all you need to do is upgrade the software you currently are using to Home & Business.

Click on Upgrade TurboTax on the bottom right of the desktop program screen.

Note - All of the TurboTax desktop editions include the exact same forms, schedules and worksheets.  You receive more extensive help as you upgrade up through the desktop editions.

So, you could use the Premier edition for your self-employment business.  The software would recommend that you upgrade to Home & Business, but that is a recommendation only not a requirement.

I purchased a Deluxe disk from Staples but I have Stock Income and Royalties.   Can I still use it or do I need to upgrade to Premier

All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions. So you can use a lower version like Deluxe.  In the Online browser versions you need Premier to enter investments and Home & Business for Schedule C self employment.
