I was a W-2 intern, not self-employed. I had no outside income or expenses. A Schedule C should not be required—this was regular employment.

Where is it telling you to prepare a Schedule C?   Did you enter the W-2?  You are posting your question from online Deluxe---which cannot even be used to prepare a Schedule C.

It depends. It sounds like you may have been issued either a 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC. If you believe you should have been paid as an employee you can choose to file your income using the information in the link below for a substitute W-2. Keep in mind the IRS will required you to pay your share of social security and medicare taxes, then go after the employer for their share. Also this return must be mailed to the IRS.

There is a way to handle this in TurboTax, using either form SS-8 or a substitute W-2 form. Also, review Form SS-8 (click the link) which is what the IRS uses to determine employee-employer relationship.
