Do you know the issuer of the 1099-Misc? Is your social security number listed on the form?
I would contact the issuer to inquire about why you were sent this form. These are also sent to the IRS so they will be expecting this income to be on your return.
You can receive a 1099-Misc for many different reasons.
Who is it from? Are you in California? It might be for the CA Middle Class Tax Refund you got. Or it could be for a lot of thing.
I also received a 1099-MISC for royalties from zazzle. I never heard of that company until now. Never sold anything or received any payments. Called the company twice now, a customer service agent noted it but nobody ever called me back. Clearly there is some fraud going on as all my details are correct and the company do not appear to care. What do I do? Amount just over $10 but do not want to cause it to get flagged as unreported income.
If it's just over 10.00 and you don't know who it came from you might as well report it and pay the couple of dollars in taxes. Better than have the IRS after you and then spend countless hours and aggravation explaining to them what happened. The postage for the correspondence back and forth alone may cost more than that.
