Business Activity Code

I am a self-employed sports official (umpire). What business activity code can I use? I have used 999999 in the past, and TurboTax won't let me.

Try using 999000 - miscellaneous.

Thanks! I have always used 999999. I had special circumstances last year and went to a tax preparer and they even used 999999. This year it would let me.

If the miscellaneous code suggested still does not work, take a look at the Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation codes.  Code 713990 for example, is for all other amusement and recreation industries.

  • It allowed me to use 999000. It appears the IRS changed their codes from the last time I did my 2021 taxes with Turbotax. 999999 was the miscellaneous code at that time.

Yes, you used an acceptable code.  I'm not exactly sure if they changed the codes, but what you used will allow  you to proceed to file your Schedule C.
