I am self-employed and worked for another small business in 2020 and 2021. They issued me a 1099 NEC for 2020, but have mailed a 1099 MISC this year. My duties did not change, and I believe I should have again received a 1099 NEC.
Do I need to request they correct this, cancel the 1099 MISC and mail me an NEC form, or will the IRS not care and can I just proceed with what I've received? (I much prefer the latter as long as there are no real consequences.)

What box did they enter it in on the 1099Misc? The IRS split off box 7 to the new 1099NEC box 1. Sounds like they messed up. Just enter it as before as self employment either as Cash, General or as a 1099NEC. I would ask them to correct it.
Box 3 Other Income
You can proceed to report the 1099-MISC and TurboTax will treat it as self-employment income if you answer the questions correctly.
You should enter it in the Other Common Income section and then Income from Form 1099-MISC. You will see a screen that says Did the (name of company) income involve work that's like (name of taxpayer) main Job? You have to enter "yes" to that question, then work through the rest of that section to have the income assigned to the correct business.
