What is a 1099-R? I do not have one from my employer of retirement account holder, and I'm not sure who I should expect one from

You get a 1099R if you took a distribution or withdrawal from a retirement account or a IRA or 401K etc. Or did a Rollover to another account or Converted it to a ROTH account. Might be a couple other reasons. Did you do anything with your account? Contributing doesn't count.
